The City Council tenders the demolition of the teachers' houses in Leonor Canalejas school

30 August 2017
El Ayuntamiento licita el derribo de las casas de maestros del Leonor Canalejas

It will agree with the educational community and Conselleria when demolish these blocks so as not to affect the school activity

Benidorm City Council is going to tender by urgent public tender the contract to demolish the old teachers's houses of the school Leonor Canalejas, which were evicted a year ago in view of the report of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) commissioned by the Consistory that Warned that one of the blocks had damage and a "low level of structural security."

The Local Government Board today approved this recruitment file and an expense of 74,683.29 euros to take on this demolition, which will be done following the project commissioned and paid by the City.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, who also manages the Education area, has indicated that "the bidding process is going to be fast," adding that "once we have the award, the City will make itself available to the educational community of CEIP Leonor Canalejas and the Territorial Directorate of the Conselleria of Education in Alicante to coordinate to the maximum those works of demolition ". The demolition of these homes will take place "on the dates deemed appropriate by all agents involved", including parents and teachers, "ensuring that the continuity of the course is not resentful."

Pérez recalled that although this action "is autonomous competence," the City Council "has assumed the demolition of these blocks with prior authorization from the Generalitat in order to streamline it to the maximum" and "before the impossibility to undertake these tasks that manifested representatives of the Conselleria ". Something, he added, that already happened when it was necessary to relocate the school dining room of the school, an action that also financed the City Hall.

"We are fulfilling a commitment that we adopted with the school, the educational community and the Generalitat Valenciana," he said.

Once the blocks of the old houses of masters located next to the patio are demolished, Conselleria must build in this point new facilities. A project in which, according to the mayor, should already be working the regional government.
