The City Council is requesting a grant from the Provincial Council to renew the sewer system on Periodista Emilio Romero Street

Benidorm City Council, through the Local Government Board, has approved a request from Alicante Provincial Council for a grant to renovate the sewerage system on Calle Periodista Emilio Romero. According to the proposal submitted by José Ramón González de Zárate, Councilor for Water Cycles, this project has been approved.
The council member expressed the City Council's commitment to "improving municipal water infrastructure and ensuring optimal service." Hence, the need to undertake this project has led to the decision to resubmit the application for this year's call to obtain the necessary resources "to improve the system's efficiency, reducing the risk of breakdowns while ensuring adequate service."
The City Council's request is part of the Provincial Council's call for proposals in 2025 for grants to local entities for the repair (Line A) and initial installation, renovation, or major repair (Line B) of water supply and sanitation infrastructure. This will be used to finance the aforementioned actions.
In the case of Benidorm, the request is limited to Line B, "Water Infrastructure Works," the renovation of the sewer system on Calle Periodista Emilio Romero, which has a budget of €58,287.15. These works will allow for the renovation of the street collector "in order to avoid blockage problems," according to the councillor. This pipe will be installed in the roadway to free up the sidewalk for the installation of other services.
The works involve the installation of a 315-millimetre diameter PVC sewer collector under the roadway in the parking area. It will have a straight layout with a 1% gradient, which will significantly improve its performance. The section affected by these works will be the one between Avenida del Mediterráneo and the Levante Seafront Promenade and the completion period once work begins, will be one month, according to the project.
The approved proposal entails the council's commitment to inform the provincial authority of any aid, subsidy, or income it receives for this activity other than the one requested. The City Council may not request the inclusion of this project in another call for proposals managed by the Provincial Council and will not pass on the cost to users.
