The City Council invites you to join the 'Walk for your city' challenge for European Mobility Week

El Ayuntamiento invita a sumarse al desafío ‘Walk for your city’ por la Semana Europea de la Movilidad

Benidorm City Council's Department of Mobility has invited the public to participate in the "Walk for your city" challenge, an initiative organised to mark European Mobility Week (EMW) 2025, taking place from September 16 to 22. Anyone interested in joining the team representing Benidorm is welcome to participate. The councillor for the department, Francis Muñoz, explained that the city has already signed up to participate in this challenge, which, in addition to promoting more sustainable mobility, also aims to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits among its residents.

To participate, the head of Mobility explained that interested parties must download the Walk15 app and then join the challenge by selecting the Benidorm team and start walking to contribute and add their steps to the city's overall tally. Although those interested can already download the app and join the challenge, the step count will begin on September 16th and will continue until the 22nd. At the end of the week, the most active cities will be announced among all those that have taken part in this SEM 2025 initiative.

Muñoz stated that "with this challenge, we seek to encourage our residents to walk for personal well-being and, at the city level, to involve citizens in participating more actively in European Mobility Week, which we at the City Council have been promoting for years with numerous initiatives."

The councillor also emphasised that "in Benidorm, many people go out for walks, especially early in the day and as the evening draws on, times when the promenades and other spaces are filled with people walking, jogging, or running." He added that "we invite all of them to participate in this challenge to demonstrate that we are an active city." He also noted that "in addition to those who walk for sport, people who walk from home to work, to go shopping, etc., can also participate, because every step counts and will be important."

Finally, Francis Muñoz announced that the rest of the activities the City Council has planned for European Mobility Week 2025 will be announced in the coming days.
