5th grade Primary School students from CEIP Gabriel Miró learn the basic rules of traffic in the Children's Traffic Park

Children and teenagers, protagonists of the activities for the European Mobility Week in Benidorm

Niños y adolescentes, protagonistas de las actividades por la Semana Europea de la Movilidad en Benidorm

This Wednesday, children and adolescents were the protagonists of the activities being carried out in Benidorm on the occasion of the European Mobility Week, aimed mainly at promoting greener and more sustainable mobility among citizens. The councilor for the area, Francis Muñoz, explained that today's event has focused on this children's audience with the aim of "starting to raise awareness from an early age on issues such as the use of bicycles or other less polluting transport", since that “they are going to be the citizens of the future and those who are going to have the possibility of deciding in their hands.”

“Road education for the little ones” is one of the activities that have been developed during this day and took place in the Children's Traffic Park.

The councilor for Mobility has traveled there along with the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno. Both have received in these municipal facilities the 5th-grade students of the Gabriel Miró public school, who have learned the basic traffic rules thanks to the explanations of a Local Police agent and, later, have been able to practically apply everything. what was learned in the attached circuit?

Likewise, IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch has hosted the “Brico Bici” workshop, which is taking place throughout the week in all secondary schools.

This workshop, promoted by a local bicycle rental company, consists of a class with tips and notions of basic mechanics and where they are taught, for example, how to change the brake pads when the bicycle requires it, how to monitor the pressure of the tires or even how to repair a puncture or adjust the gears, one of the parts that most often go out of adjustment in this means of transportation. "What we are looking for with these workshops is, precisely, for teenagers to lose their fear of riding a bike around the city and to promote the bicycle as a sustainable means of transport," said Francis Muñoz, who also stressed that "Benidorm has a cycling network like very few cities” and has encouraged citizens to use it.

Other scheduled activities

Among the activities that Benidorm City Council is carrying out on the occasion of the European Mobility Week, the 'Brico Bici' workshop will travel this Thursday, the 21st, to the IES l'Almadrava.

In addition, Friday, September 22, will be 'Car-Free Day' in which, from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., traffic on Paseo de Poniente will be restricted to residents and public transport. Also at 10 in the morning, the El Torrejó Municipal Center will host the meeting 'Tourism and sustainable mobility, Benidorm model' in which the mayor of Benidorm and president of Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, will participate as speakers; the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes; and the general director of Transport and Logistics of the Regional Government, Manuel Ríos.
