The City Council tenders the drafting of the project, included in the EDUSI, which will be ready in three years and which has a grant from European funds

The bullring and an annex building will house the central library, study rooms, a youth center and a multicultural one for associations

18 January 2021
La plaça de bous i un edifici annex albergaran la biblioteca central, sales d'estudi, un centre jove i un multicultural per a associacions...

Benidorm City Council is going to rehabilitate the bullring and build a new building in the vicinity to generate "a great multicultural and multifunctional space" where, among other infrastructures, "the central library, study rooms, a youth center coexist and another for multiple use that will be as a hotel for associations and entities ”. This is what the mayor, Toni Pérez, has said today, who has assured that “this great project is the synthesis of Benidorm's commitment to culture, associationism, participation, creativity, leisure and the development of our youth, for multiculturalism, for the intergenerational relationship, for training and for integration ”.

The mayor recalled that this project "is included within the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) for which Benidorm has obtained 10 million euros of European funds that it will complete with funds from successive municipal budgets".

Toni Pérez explained that “this action in the bullring and its surroundings is the most ambitious of EDUSI project and is beginning to take its first steps, since the tender has been approved to contract the drafting services of the basic projects and execution". The consulting firm that wins this public tender will have a period of four months to present both projects, so it is expected that the City Council will have them at the beginning of the summer.

The mayor has detailed that "the new building will also solve the accessibility and connectivity of two eminently residential neighborhoods, Foietes-Colonia Madrid and Els Tolls." Thus, Alfonso Puchades Avenue and Austria Street will be linked to Parque de l’Aigüera, saving the difference in elevation between the two areas, which will be connected through the building itself ”. In addition, the project includes improving and expanding the pedestrian space of the entire environment.

The project also includes “recovering and also giving new uses to our bullring, which after almost 60 years and by technical recommendation only maintains activity in the ground floor, where the Municipal Conservatory of Music 'and Dance José Pérez Barceló, which we hope will be able to move to the cultural center next autunm, thus fulfilling the commitment adopted by the City Council to provide this new space when it is handed over by the Generalitat Valenciana.

Toni Pérez has indicated that “it will be the architectural and constructive proposal that will tell us in which of the two buildings all the services provided by the City Council will be installed, as well as the space that each one of them will occupy”. Broadly speaking, these services are: a central library with multiple spaces, including study rooms and an auditorium; youth and youth information center with a large exhibition hall, hotel room for associations, multipurpose, rehearsal and training, and kitchen room; and a multicultural and multifunctional center with offices and warehouses for associations. In addition, it includes the creation of a stage in the stands of the bullring and the installation of a fixed stage and sound and lighting equipment.

The project has a global budget of 8,695,691 euros and will be ready throughout 2023, of which just over 500,000 euros will be used to contract the services of project writing and construction management. In addition to this action, the City Council has already put out to tender the drafting of another project included in the EDUSI: the construction of a youth hostel, a camping area and an interpretation center in Parque de la Séquia Mare.
