Benidorm Municipal Corporation will vote in plenary on October 26 to close the joint commission of the bus station after the parties have reached an agreement to terminate the contract. This has been transferred by the municipal secretary in a Board of Spokespersons convened today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, after the signing of the minutes of such commission in which the terms of the agreement are collected.
A commission of which the municipal secretary and auditor, a technician from the Economic area and the representatives of the commercial Estación de Autobuses de Benidorm SL have formed, and which was established in 2018 with the aim of resolving the concession contract by mutual agreement. from the bus station to comply with the ruling issued by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community in 2007 -and ratified by the Supreme Court in 2012-. This ruling obliged the City Council to tender again the operation of the bus station.
Broadly speaking, the agreement to terminate the contract contemplates liquidating the bus station for a maximum amount of 24.5 million euros, an amount that will not entail any disbursement to the City Council since it would be covered in the new tender, to be carried out within a period maximum of six months –with the possibility of adding an additional period of 3 months in case a second tender is required-. The current concessionaire will leave the station and the areas for commercial and hotel use will leave the facilities in perfect condition. To this end, Estación de Autobuses de Benidorm SL must carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation project for the complex that amounts to 287,141.07 euros.
Likewise, Estación de Autobuses de Benidorm SL will continue to provide service until the existence of a new concessionaire.
It is expected that the minutes of the commission signed today will be ruled this coming Monday in the Informative Commission of the Internal Regime, to be later addressed in plenary session. After its plenary approval, an agreement will be drawn up between the parties and the process for the new tender will begin.
