Benidorm will test in Els Tolls a network of cycle paths that link to existing bike lanes

11 April 2017
Benidorm probará en Els Tolls una red de ciclovías que enlace con carriles-bici existentes

The Mobility Council will analyze changes in the circulation of different streets in the city

The optional address of the blue zone contract will evaluate the PES proposals on which the corporation will decide

The Mobility Council, which has resumed this Monday the meeting that was unfinished on Friday, has supported the proposal for several streets of Els Tolls to become cycle paths as a test. The council of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate, recalled that the plenary amended the municipal ordinance of Mobility last September to, among other things, include the creation and regulation of bicycle lanes, streets with a road in which vehicles and bicycles coexist And where the latter have a preferential use.

De Zárate has indicated that the intention is to do a "pilot test" in Els Tolls, creating a network of cycle paths that depart from the street Italia and that extends for others of the neighborhood "to link with the bike lanes existing in the avenues Alfonso Puchades, Jaime I, Comunidad Valenciana and European Community ".

At the same meeting it was agreed to signalize the bike lanes to clarify that, as the ordinance collects, they can also make use of them runners and skaters "as long as they respect the rules of circulation thereof." In this regard, the council has clarified that the maximum speed on the bike lanes is 20 kilometers, so that all those bikes that exceed this limitation must circulate along the same roadway as other vehicles.

The Mobility Council has also seen changes in the circulation of several streets in the city, which will have to be decided in the coming months. This is the case of Emilio Ortuño, but mainly Venezuela Street, where the Ausiàs March school, the Foietes health center and the specialties center are concentrated. De Zárate has pointed out that the changes in the latter are at the expense of putting into service the new road that runs parallel to the Park Foietes, something that is estimated to occur in summer.

During the meeting, it has also been verified that the weekend has worked well the change of direction that was operated on Friday in the section of the street Gerona that joins the avenues Doctor Orts Llorca and Europe. In addition, the decision has also been supported that after pedestrianizing the low section of Tomás Ortuño street, access and exit of the car parks of El Calvari is carried out by La Biga and La Parra.

Finally, the Mobility Council has addressed issues related to the Sustainable Parking Plan (PES). Those responsible for the blue zone concessionaire and the crane, SICE-Auplasa, explained the measures included in the PES, which should now "technically and economically evaluate the optional management of the contract - made up of technicians from different departments - and an engineer municipal". When the reports are available, the political representatives will meet to try to close and agree on a joint proposal that includes PES measures that are considered positive in Benidorm "to improve mobility and traffic".

Among the measures included in the PES that should be assessed by the facultative management and the engineer are, among others: extension of the blue zone, expansion of the card of residents to the whole city, increase of rates for visitors, that zones Of summer also operate in Easter, and regulate the areas of motorcycle and of loading and unloading.
