Benidorm will open the pool in the Palau when it regains its possession and certifies its good condition

21 October 2016
Benidorm reabrirá la piscina del Palau en cuanto recupere su posesión y certifique su buen estado

Wednesday is the deadline that has been given to the dealership to leave the premises

The City Council takes a month to get back on other services and gather information about users and payments. Next Wednesday, October 26, expires the deadline that Benidorm City Council has given the concessionaire of the pool and gym of Palau d'Esports to leave the premises. Therefore, this Friday the Technical Commission for the municipalization of both services-in which are represented all departments involved-has met to determine what will be the municipal action to recover possession of these facilities when time expires, and how it will resume the activity. The councilwoman of Contracting, Lourdes Caselles, explained that on 27 Thursday "we will be in these municipal premises to see if the concessionaire is evicted. " Otherwise, "we must resort to the contentious way to obtain judicial authorization that allows us to enter and proceed with the administrative eviction because the law protects us." Caselles stressed that "technical departments of Engineering and Health will review the state of the pool and "if everything is correct, it will be operational immediately, even may be opened the same day". In this regard, the councillor for Sports, Ana Pellicer, said that "the lifeguard service is guaranteed with municipal staff" and added that since the department it "has been planning to cover the entire opening hours of the pool" . The councillor stated that "the pool will be open for general use, although swimming lessons will be suspended until we have all the information about what they were paying, how many users were, how much time...; information that the dealership has never given us even though it was obliged to do so. " The same goes for the gym. Therefore the Technical Commission has decided to take a time to gather all that information. Pellicer indicated that to collect all this data, a form will be made available to users in the Palau, in the department of Sports and on the municipal website. This data will then be studied by the departments of Treasury and Sport and so that appropiate decisions are taken by the Technical Commission. The council has asked all users "maximum cooperation so that all services can be resumed as soon as possible". Regarding the maintenance of the pool and other facilities, Caselles reported that "yesterday the opening of proceedings" for bidding started. The councillor pointed out that "by reports they already know, all members of the corporation know that it is necessary to make a maintenance contract" because there is no municipal personnel specialized in refrigeration or boilers. Until the contract is realized, the "department of Engineering will take over maintenance provisionally by qualified personnel".
