Benidorm will make free area for residents more than 3,000 parking spaces

17 August 2017
Benidorm convertirá en zona verde gratuita para residentes más de 3.000 plazas de aparcamiento

The Mobility Council addresses ten measures to improve the parking to be implemented before the next Holy Week and now must support the full

The City of Benidorm will progressively implement a series of measures to improve parking, among which are the implementation of the green zone with more than 3,000 free parking spaces for residents. This morning the Mobility Council - which includes the administration, political groups, and business, neighborhood and social associations - has addressed a document with ten measures of the Parking Plan (PES) that should vote and approve the plenary and accept the company Of the blue zone and the crane, SICE-Auplasa.

Area councilor José Ramón González de Zárate said: "We want these measures implemented at the beginning of next year or at the latest for Holy Week." De Zárate has clarified that "its implementation can not be immediate since it is necessary to modify ordinances and wait for the arrival of new technological devices," and stressed that "with all proposed measures we protect the resident."

On the green zone, the mayor has advanced that will work with a resident card that will operate on a total of 3,003 places in La Cala -603-, downtown area -789-, Colonia Madrid -1.414- and Rincón de Loix -197-. In these places, those registered with Benidorm who have paid their traffic tax can park "free 24 hours a day," while "visitors will pay 1.50 euros per hour."

The document also includes the requests made by the employers Hosbec, ONCE and the concessionaire company to reconvert in blue zone just over a hundred places in the avenue of Foietes -80 seats-, and the streets Orxeta and Roldán - a score twenty In each one - to ensure the rotation of vehicles in these areas of hotel concentration or public service headquarters. Also in relation to the blue zone, it is proposed to increase the tariffs and schedules of the ORA for visitors, who should also pay to park in these plazas on Sundays and holidays throughout the year.

The proposal that the Mobility Council has assessed today also includes "regulating loading and unloading places, both in the blue zone and in the green zone". Thus, it is proposed that companies in Benidorm "can use the free download and charge for 30 minutes", while for out of town will cost 2 euros. Outside those hours, the squares will function as a blue or green zone.

Another novelty raised by the document is that motorcycles pay 0.12 per hour when parking in blue zone, double for non-residents. Likewise, the annulment of the denunciations of the blue zone will be allowed paying 3 euros, an amount below the average of other municipalities; and the amount to be disbursed for the stay of vehicles in the crane deposit after 24 hours will be increased to one euro every 60 minutes. With this last measure "we want to avoid the situation that is being experienced now, in which many tourists leave their car in the warehouse for a week because it is cheaper than paying a public or private parking."

Finally, the document that will go to committee next week and then to plenary, proposes to create new deterrent car parks in different parts of the city - which will be accompanied by a reduction of the price of the public bus ticket - as well as the implementation of different measures Technological developments. Among these measures are the traffic detection systems to know at all times the state of the circulation, a parking orientation app, information panels and environmental and acoustic pollution meters.

The implementation of these technological measures and the purchase of 80 parking meters will mean an investment of 1.2 million euros by the concessionaire. In addition, according to the mayor, "they will create about 50 jobs, some temporary and others for the whole year."
