Benidorm will illuminate El Castell in blue, red and green on Saturday to commemorate the Roma Day

Next Saturday, April 8, Benidorm joins the commemoration of International Roma Day by illuminating one of its most emblematic enclaves, El Castell, in blue, red, and green. These three colors make up the gypsy flag, which was instituted precisely on April 8, 1971, at the first World Roma/Gypsy Congress held in London.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca, indicated that "with this gesture of illuminating El Castell we support the equal struggle for the rights of Roma people, social inclusion and respect for the identity of the Roma people". Llorca transferred that “the City Council will continue to make visible the reality of the gypsy people by implementing actions aimed at social inclusion and the fight against anti-gypsyism, the recognition of their culture and the diversity of society; and promoting the promotion of the participation of this group as citizens with full rights”.

Some actions are channeled through the Community Action Program that "we have been developing since 2018".
