Benidorm, weekend dedicated to Saint James

Benidorm has held a reduced version of the events throughout the weekend in honor of its patron, Sant Jaume, which, due to the health situation, had to move from July to the last weekend in August.

On Saturday the traditional offering to the apostle took place, and after it was unveiled what is now the poster announcing the Festes Majors Patronals 2021, the work of Miguel Ribes Sogorb, which will be held between November 13 and 17.

The events continued on Sunday with an aerial bombardment at noon and, in the afternoon, with the celebration of a mass in honor of the saint, which was attended by a large representation of the Municipal Corporation led by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles. Among those present, the national deputy, Agustín Almodóbar; the presidents of 2021 Patron Fiestas Committee and the Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’, Batiste Rostoll and Adrián Romero; the queens Paula Pérez and Sofía Fuster, the standard bearer, Vicente Fuster; members of honor.

The mass was officiated by the titular parish priest of the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, Juan Antonio González and in it the recovery of the city after the health crisis caused by Covid-19 and the situation that you live in Afghanistan.

After the religious ceremony, the traditional 'Estampeta' was fired in honor of Sant Jaume, and then the queens and their courts of honor performed the 'Peuet Dance'. The ceremony came to an end with the firing of fireworks.

The icing on the cake on this festive day was the firing at 10.30 pm of the fireworks show ‘Torna la llum’, from the Paseo de Levante, framed within a program of support to the pyrotechnic industry of the Diputación de Alicante.
