The Municipal Maintenance Plan makes works in the schools that needed it most

Benidorm starts the safest school year

08 September 2021
Inicio del curso escolar 2021/2022

This morning the Infant and Primary Education centers (CEIP) and the Secondary Education institutes (IES) of Benidorm have opened their doors with the start of the 2021-2022 academic year. A total of 9,200 students have occupied the classrooms in what will be the safest course thanks, in large part, to the actions carried out by the City Council during the summer holidays.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, travelled to CEIP Aitana at 9:00 in the morning, where municipal workers were giving the final touches of paint on the sports field. The school also has a new exterior ramp to facilitate access.
After meeting with the new director of the school, Jaume Martínez Roig, and evaluating possible new municipal interventions in the center, the mayor has confirmed the "total normality" of the first day of the course, thanks largely to the actions carried out by the City Council , when the facilities have remained empty.
The Municipal Maintenance Plan has worked in all enclosures both "indoors and outdoors". Also “in school environments, making safer [access] routes” and incorporating “surveillance equipment”.
Toni Pérez has highlighted the installation of purifying machines distributed by "all the units authorized by the Generalitat Valenciana", in all cycles, Infant, Primary and Secondary and also in the dining rooms.
Likewise, the City Council has installed CO2 sensors "now that science is warning that it is really this CO2 control that can allow us to fight the virus." The mayor has specified that, although it may seem to the educational administration that it is "a post-pandemic course", the City Council "is going to remain very vigilant."
Toni Pérez has stressed "the reinforcements in cleaning and disinfection" that are increased in actions "during school hours, in addition to the usual tasks", once the school day is over.
After the tour of Aitana school, Toni Pérez and Maite Moreno went to the IES Mediterrània shortly before 10:30, the time when the teaching activity was scheduled to begin, where they met with the group of teachers.
Of the 9,200 students who have started the course today, 1,551 will take the second cycle of Early Childhood Education; 3,317 will do it in Primary; and 4,332 in Secondary, Baccalaurate and Post-compulsory.
The Municipal Maintenance Plan has carried out around 80 masonry, painting, electricity, plumbing and locksmith interventions in the CEIPs, municipal nursery schools (EIM) and the headquarters of the National Distance University (UNED). The City Council has invested more than 60,000 euros in the renovation of playgrounds, pavement, sports areas and other school facilities.
