This second phase covers the section from Pintor Lozano street to Carmela Martínez street and has a completion period of two months.

Benidorm resumes work on the renovation of the drinking water and sewerage network on Calle Pérez Martorell after the summer stoppage

Benidorm reanuda las obras de renovación de la red de agua potable y alcantarillado en la calle Pérez Martorell tras la paralización estival

The second phase of the renovation works on the drinking water and sewerage infrastructures on Metge Pérez Martorell Street will begin next Monday, September 2. These works will now affect the section that runs between Carmela Martínez and Pintor Lozano streets and the expected completion time is two months, so they will be finished before the celebration of the Festes Majors Patronals, according to the councillor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate.

The City Council began the renovation of the drinking water and sewerage network on this street last April, although the plan was to undertake the work in two phases due to the arrival of the summer season. For this reason, the work has been suspended during July and August.

The overall budget for the works amounts to 428,551.57 euros and is financed by the company holding the concession for the Integrated Water Cycle, Hidraqua, from the Municipal Drinking Water and Sewerage Service Renewal Funds.

Once the work is finished, 200 metres of the drinking water network will be renovated and replaced by installing a ductile iron pipe with a nominal diameter of 250 millimetres. Another 110 metres of the wastewater network will be renovated with a PVC pipe with a nominal diameter of 315 and 400 millimetres using conventional civil engineering methods. 85 metres are being renovated with a fibreglass sleeve system, and their corresponding domestic connections will also be renovated.

The works are completed with the installation of pipelines for municipal services “and the urban scene of the area is improved by the execution of a single platform at the same level, with granite sidewalks and printed asphalt road, in addition to placing new street furniture”, said González de Zárate.

The councillor insisted again that this is a “necessary” intervention on services “that were obsolete and that needed to be renovated and replaced”. The action will also improve public decoration and accessibility, so in the opinion of the councillor “with works like this we are building the Benidorm of the future”.

Due to the resumption of the works, road traffic will be restricted. Thus, authorised vehicles and loading and unloading vehicles will be diverted from Plaza de la Hispanidad towards Avenida de Alcoy and Avenida Virgen del Sufragio, with access from Calle Doctor Pérez Llorca being cancelled, except for residents who must enter and exit via Plaza de la Hispanidad.
