Benidorm receives the Spanish Mobility Week award for its project ‘Friendly City: Awareness 10, 20 and 30’

Benidorm recibe el premio de la Semana Española de la Movilidad por su proyecto ‘Ciudad Amable: Concienciación 10, 20 y 30’

Benidorm City Council has been distinguished with the Spanish Mobility Week award jointly awarded by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge for Spanish city councils between 10,000 and 100,000 inhabitants.
The jury distinguished the Benidorm project 'Ciudad Amable: Awareness 10, 20 and 30', which will allow the town to receive an official diploma accrediting the award and will have the right to indefinitely use the logo of the awards in which it appears the category and award received, as well as the year of the award.
These awards collected distinctions in three different categories. On the one hand, for municipalities, on the other hand for organizations, institutions and companies and, finally, for media professionals.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has pointed out in this regard that this award is “one more recognition of all the policies in favor of sustainable urban mobility that we have been undertaking since 2015 and that are aligned with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, which allows us to access in a good position to the calls that are made from the central government with charge of European funds ”.
The mayor has been "very satisfied" with the award received for the project to raise awareness of speed in urban sections at 10, 20 and 30 km / h and has stressed that "in the city an alternative has been sought, which has been the prevalence of the pedestrian over the rest of the vehicles ”.
At that point, Pérez has cited sections such as the one on Avenida del Mediterráneo between Avenida Europa and Plaza de la Hispanidad, or the promenades, "where people, non-motorized vehicles can coexist and, in last term, public transport and private mobility in vehicles ”.
Obtaining the recognition has meant, the mayor insisted, “reinforcing Benidorm's leadership position and a job well done that is allowing us to reach many economic resources that other local administrations have closed for not having developed such ambitious projects as the that Benidorm executes ”.
In his candidacy, Benidorm detailed all the legal, technical, administrative and economic aspects that have been developed to carry out this global project. He also made an assessment of the social success of the measures adopted, the studies and analyzes carried out.
Among the requirements was also to explain if the measures presented have indicators that allow measuring their evolution over time as well as to indicate if there was a Mobility Plan in accordance with which the measures presented have been carried out.
To achieve the award Benidorm also valued the innovative aspects introduced, the new technologies used and the digitization processes implemented.
Another important aspect in the jury's assessment has been the promotion of sustainable mobility during the pandemic and how it has contributed to that improvement.
