Benidorm pays tribute to the young woman from Ciudad Real murdered on Sunday, January 8, the third confirmed victim of 2023

Benidorm City Council has held a minute of silence at noon today to condemn the sexist murder confirmed yesterday by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, which is already the third declared in 2023. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led the silent rally that has shown, once again, the strongest rejection of this social scourge by the municipal Corporation.

On this occasion, Belén, a 24-year-old woman, and mother of a minor daughter, in Piedrabuena (Ciudad Real) was honored. His has been the third confirmed macho murder so far this year, bringing to 1,185 the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners since 2003. With him, the number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain rises to 6 in 2023 and to 383 since 2013.

There were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has specialized personnel in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, she reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
