Benidorm obsevers a minute of silence in memory of the woman killed yesterday in Gran Canaria

01 October 2019
Benidorm guarda un minuto de silencio en memoria de la mujer asesinada ayer en Gran Canaria

The municipal corporation, employees of the City Council of Benidorm and neighbors, have met on Tuesday, at noon, at the gates of the town hall to observe a minute of silence for the last victim of gender violence in Spain, the woman who lost her life yesterday Monday, at the hands of her ex-partner in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

With the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, in the lead, Benidorm City Council has thus reiterated its strongest rejection of sexist violence that, in what we have been for the year, has killed of 45 women. A figure that could be increased if a case that is still under investigation is confirmed. Since 2003, the year in which the statistical monitoring of victims began, 1,020 women have been murdered in Spain.

The Councilor for Equality has insisted on "the need to achieve a society free of gender violence." To do this, he recalled that any woman who feels threatened can go to municipal services, and also the existence of the toll-free number for victims, 016, which serves 52 languages, and leaves no trace on the bill telephone, although it is recommended to delete the record from the telephone used.
