The incident occurred just ten days after the fire in a building that cost the lives of ten people in Valencia

Benidorm observes a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the La Vila Joiosa fire

05 March 2024
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

The Benidorm City Council has joined the call made by the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and has observed a minute of silence in the Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España in memory of the three people who died in the fire that broke out in early Monday morning in a 24-story building in the neighbouring town of La Vila Joiosa.

The silent rally took place at noon and was led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, accompanied by members of the local corporation, the regional deputy Manuel Pérez Fenoll and civil society representatives. Numerous neighbours have also joined in.

The flames originated around 2:15 a.m. on Monday due to an overload in a socket in a room. The fire spread throughout the house and caused the death of three people from the same family; a five-year-old boy, his father and his grandmother. As a result of the fire, another fifteen people were injured due to smoke inhalation. The event occurred just ten days after the fire that affected two buildings in the Campanar neighbourhood in Valencia in which ten people died.
