Benidorm launches a project to adapt all the trails of El Moralet, including the old TRAM track

The City Council of Benidorm is going to move to the Department of Housing, Public Works and Vertebration of the Territory a project of 'Adaptation and signaling of cycle-pedestrian paths in the area of El Moralet', drafted by the municipal technicians, and valued in close 120,000 euros. The project was presented and explained during the Environment Council held today in the Plenary Hall of the consistory and chaired by the councilor of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate.

The councillor said that "with this action we want to prepare the trails that are on municipal land in El Moralet, so they can be used by residents, visitors and tourists for hiking or cycling." The City Council's intention is to complete this network "with the old train route reconverting it into Greenway". In this regard, he recalled that the plenary session approved asking the Regional Ministry to cede to the City Council the use of this itinerary. "Conselleria asked us to send him a project and a valued memory," he pointed out, "and this is the origin of this project that goes beyond this route by including the paths of El Moralet, unknown to a large part of the population."

De Zárate remarked that "we are only going to act on existing paths, without opening new ones", since the objective is "to value this area environmentally without affecting the environment". In order not to alter the natural aspect of the road zone, the existing paving will be maintained, except for the path that would correspond to the Greenway, "in which we propose to use artificial gravel to make this path 100% accessible and passable. for people with reduced mobility ".

In addition to adapting the paths, the project proposes to sign with planes and indicators the different paths and install protection fences to "avoid falls in the unevenness of the roads, on the edges of the ravines and in the embankment area of ​​the old TRAM layout. " The councillor has detailed that these protective fences will be "treated pine wood to be integrated into the environment."

The project includes some manual or mechanical action to regulate the gradients of the roads "at the points of connection of paths".

The person in charge of Environment has indicated that this project is part of the Sustainable Urban Development Integrator Strategy (EDUSI), and is in line with "the actions we have done to connect Benidorm and l'Alfàs through Serra Gelada through a cycle -shoes, or others in portfolio linked to El Tossal. De Zárate has clarified that if Benidorm does not achieve funds through EDUSI, a specific item will be included for this project in the 2018 Budget.
