Benidorm launches 'Menjadors a casa ’a municipal plan, which will reach more than 500 Infant and Primary students

Benidorm lanza el plan municipal de ‘Menjadors a casa’, que llegará a más de 500 alumnos de Infantil y Primaria

Benidorm City Council has launched the Municipal Food Guarantee Network 'Menjadors a casa' which will reach more than half a thousand students of Infant and Primary students who are beneficiaries of the school canteen scholarships B, C and D. This Network will be active while the suspension of the academic activity decreed by the coronavirus crisis.

The objective of ‘Menjadors a casa’ is “to attend to all these students from the public schools in Benidorm by providing a canteen service like the one they receive during the course in their educational centers; and at the same time reduce or, at least, space the outings that family members make to purchase food products, ”as explained by the mayor, Toni Pérez.

Pérez recalled that "the Department of Education has created 'dining scholarship vouchers' for beneficiaries of a type A scholarship - the one that covers the entire service - with which families with greater risk of vulnerability can purchase food in a supermarket chain for the amount equivalent to the food they receive at the educational center and which for this first fortnight is 60 euros ”. 'Menjadors a casa' initiative," he has clarified, "is aimed at families who are not included in this grant from the Minitry, but thus attending to a very large volume of students who also have a scholarship from public schools in Benidorm" .

"We want that in these difficult times families have help to meet their possible needs and make the situation more bearable," he said, after indicating that the service "could be expanded depending on demand."

The mayor has detailed that the distribution of the menus will be done one day a week at a physical point that will be established in each of the neighborhoods, preferably schools. The menus for five days prepared by a catering company will be delivered to each family. Families will be informed by SMS of this ‘Menjadors a casa’ program, which will begin operating thisTuesday, April 7, and will continue until face-to-face academic activity is resumed in schools.

The menus will be distributed through volunteers from the municipal Collective Aid Network (#RAC) and municipal staff in the centers that are established as a point of reference in each of the neighborhoods.

According to the data collected by the Department of Education, which is run by the councillor Maite Moreno, in the schools of Benidorm there are 511 students of 2nd cycle of Infantile and Primary with a grant for dining type B, C and D.
