Benidorm contributes 13,000 euros to collaborate with the Clubs Association in the organization of the Carnival

The Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Festivals, will once again collaborate with the Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’ in organising the city's Carnival, which will take place next Saturday, February 21. Mayor Toni Pérez and the association's president, Diego Carrasco, signed a collaboration agreement under which the City Council will contribute €13,000 to cover event-organising expenses, to give the parades "the greatest possible prominence." Also present at the signing were the Councilor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the association's board, the largest festival group in the city.

As previously announced, Benidorm will celebrate Carnival this year on Saturday, February 21, with two parades. In the morning, starting at 10:30 a.m., the Children's Carnival will take place, departing from Ruzafa Street at the intersection with Escuelas Street and continuing along Herrerías Street, Pont Street, and Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España (Square of Their Majesties the Kings of Spain), where there will be a children's party and lunch for the children and groups registered to participate in the parade.

In the evening, starting at 9:00 p.m., the Adult Carnival Parade will be held, departing from Venus Street and proceeding along Ruzafa Street, Herrerías Street, Pont Street, and Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España, where there will also be a large costume party with music, entertainment, and bars offering drinks at affordable prices.

Both the mayor and the councillor for Fiestas emphasised that Carnival "is an event that Benidorm always wholeheartedly embraces" and that members of carnival groups, festival organisers, and residents "dedicate a great deal of effort and creativity to bring top-notch costumes to the streets." Therefore, they applauded the work of the Clubs Association in organising this event and wished that, once again, "Benidorm Carnival will shine brightly."

Registration and prizes

In both parades, the Clubs Association will award prizes for the most original and elaborate costumes, both in group and individual categories. For the youngest participants, in the individual category – one or two children dressed with the same theme – the prizes will be: 1st prize, €100 plus a trophy; 2nd prize, €75 plus a trophy; 3rd prize, €50 plus a trophy; and 4th and 5th prizes, €30 plus a certificate. In the group category, for groups of three or more children, the prizes will be: 1st prize, €300 plus a trophy; 2nd prize, €200 plus a trophy; 3rd prize, €100 plus a trophy; and 4th and 5th prizes, €50 plus a certificate.

Regarding the Adult Carnival, the winners in the individual category will receive three prizes: first, second, and third place, worth €300, €200, and €100 respectively, in addition to a trophy. For groups, the prizes for the best costumes are: 1st prize, €1,000 plus a trophy; 2nd prize, €800 and a trophy; 3rd prize, €600 and a trophy; 4th prize, €400 and a certificate; 5th prize, €200 and a certificate; and 6th, 7th, and 8th prizes, €100 and a certificate.

The registration period ends today, Tuesday, at 9:00 p.m. Therefore, those who haven't registered yet can still do so before that time by filling out the corresponding form at the Associació de Penyes office, located in the Casa del Fester ‘Diego Cano Enguera’, at 3 La Biga Street. It can also be sent by email (apvsbenidorm@gmail.com) or deposited in the organisation's mailbox, also located in Casa del Fester. However, for the Children's Carnival, registration will be permitted on the day of the parade itself, between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., at the meeting point.
