Benidorm condemns the sexist crime of a woman in the province of Malaga

This Tuesday, Benidorm City Council observed a minute of silence to condemn the latest murder due to sexist violence confirmed in recent hours in our country. The victim is a 50-year-old woman who was murdered last Friday in a rural area of ​​the Malaga municipality of Antequera, where this woman was allegedly suffocated by a 62-year-old man who was her partner. The man was detained by the security forces and has already been brought to justice, decreeing his entry into provisional prison with notice and without bail.

The silent rally to condemn this new murder for violence against women took place at the door of the City Hall and was led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, together with the mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, who were also joined by numerous representatives of the Municipal Corporation.

The Ministry of Equality has confirmed that the murdered woman had a minor daughter and that there were no previous complaints of mistreatment against her alleged murderer.

The crime of this resident of Antequera brings to 21 the number of women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year and to 1,265 the victims of sexist violence since 2003 when the statistics began. Likewise, throughout this year the number of minors who have been orphaned due to gender violence now amounts to 14 boys and girls, and 447 since the count began in 2013.

The Department of Equality reminds us that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the mobile call log.
