Benidorm condemns the murder of a minor under 11 years of age by his father in Sueca and a new sexist crime in Cuenca

Benidorm City Council has called a silent rally today at noon to condemn the last two crimes of gender-based violence registered in Spain, which has resulted in the murder of a minor under 11 years of age in the Valencian town of Sueca and of a woman of 46 in the municipality of Nohales, province of Cuenca. The first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, led the rally, in which members of the Municipal Corporation and neighbours have also participated.

The first case happened last Sunday when a 47-year-old man murdered his son, just 11 years old. The alarm was given by the minor's mother when she went to pick him up at her father's home. Given the lack of response from the father, who had a restraining order for mistreatment of the mother, the Civil Guard entered the property and found the lifeless body of the minor, who had stab wounds.

With this, there are already 47 minors murdered by their parents in Spain since 2013 by vicarious violence, a type of gender violence that is exercised on sons or daughters to cause harm to women.

The second crime occurred yesterday in Nohales, where a 44-year-old man murdered his ex-wife and seriously injured her current partner. At the time of his arrest, the man was still carrying the weapon with which he had killed the woman and with which he had inflicted cuts. The man had a restraining order in force for gender violence.

After this case, there are already 9 women murdered by their partner or ex-partner so far this year in Spain, and 1,135 since 2003.

The Department of Equality they have recalled that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened.

Likewise, the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
