Benidorm condemns the last sexist murder registered in Granada

The city of Benidorm today has condemned the latest sexist murder, which occurred last Friday in Granada and was confirmed yesterday by the authorities as a new crime of gender violence.

The First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led a rally with the participation of members of the Corporation and a minute of silence has been observed in memory of the victim, of 39 years.

The woman was killed at around 1:45 p.m. last Friday by her 44-year-old ex-partner, with whom she had two daughters, 6 and 10 years old. According to the investigation, the man stabbed the woman several times in the garage of her home, after which he confessed the crime to an acquaintance of hers, who was the one who alerted the police. Minutes later, the police located the individual in a nearby field with his hands and clothes covered in blood.

With this new crime, 39 women have already been murdered in Spain by their partners or ex-partners so far in 2021. The figure rises to 1,131 women since 2003, the year in which deaths due to gender violence began to be counted

The Department of Equality has recalled that the City Council has staff specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it insists that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile call log. This service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
