This Monday begins the installation of 442 meters of wooden protection railing that, in addition, will allow to generate a parking area

Benidorm completes the improvement of the image, accessibility and security of La Creu area

Benidorm completa la millora de la imatge, accessibilitat i seguretat de l'entorn de La Creu...

Benidorm City Council will complete the improvement of the image, accessibility and security of La Creu area, one of the most iconic enclaves of the city, in the coming weeks. The Councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, has reported that “this Monday, April 12, a wooden railing will begin to be installed on Tokio Avenue, which gives access to La Creu, thus giving added security to pedestrian and road traffic ”. "We are talking about 442 meters of railing identical to the one existing on Catalán Chana avenue and that in the sections with greater unevenness it is configured as a protection barrier with handrails also with a wooden aesthetic", he pointed out.

With this action "we offer protection to pedestrians and vehicles, while separating both", at the same time that "by using wood, we integrate these protection elements perfectly into the landscape and improve the image making it more friendly". In addition, new viewpoint areas of the bay of Benidorm are generated.

De Zárate has advanced that "the installation of these more than 440 meters of railing will give rise to parking areas being configured in the sections with the widest track". Thus, municipal technicians will determine the most suitable points to create these new spaces that "will allow citizens to park their vehicles in a place closer to the access to La Creu" and from there "enjoy the walk through this emblematic place and our Serra Gelada Natural Park ”.

De Zárate recalled that "in recent months different actions have been carried out to improve the image and accessibility in the area of La Creu which, as a result of these works, is awakening renewed interest both among the local population and among who visit us ”.

Thus, the roadway and signage have been improved, and lighting with ‘led’ technology and new furniture has been installed, among which two picnic areas and the bench labeled with the slogan #BenidormTeEspera stand out. In addition, the Department of Historical Heritage, directed by Ana Pellicer, two lighting boxes have been installed that recall the history of the monument -in Spanish, Valencian and English- illustrated with images of the rise and placement, in 1961, of the original cross.

Since September 2020 the access of private vehicles to La Creu has been restricted and the final section of ascent has been enabled only for pedestrians, which allows visitors to enjoy a privileged environment and unique views over the Mediterranean and Benidorm's. However, those with mobility problems or the elderly can request authorization by sending an email to controlccesos@benidorm.org.
