Benidorm City Council has organized an extensive and complete program of activities to commemorate November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This program, developed by the Department of Equality, includes the viewing of short films, talks, exhibitions, a play and will culminate next Thursday with a local march promoted by the Benidorm Housewives Association.

The program begins today with the presentation of ‘Documóvil’ project at Pere María Orts Secondary School throughout the morning. This project, promoted by the Department of Equality, consists of six short films in which ESO students and Bachelor of the city have taken part with the aim of promoting gender equality.

Through these shorts, Councilor Ángela Zaragozí explained, "the boys and girls show their vision on different problems of social significance, such as gender violence, child abuse, feminism, equality, etc.".

The shorts that are screened are ‘Don't be hysterical’, directed by Ruth López Miralpeix; ‘The Tale of an Abuser’, directed by Nathan Marín Lupsa ;. ‘Élle-a’, directed by Dina Koulaugli; ‘Red alert’, directed by Marina Rodriguez Bou; ‘Levi’, directed by Irene Pérez García; and ‘The wrong way’, directed by Wassim Atiki.

With this initiative, students get started in audiovisual production and “shoot their own short films with a central theme: gender equality”.

"From the Department we work every day to put an end to this social scourge that is the most cruel and, at the same time, the most obvious form of inequality and the power relations that continue to exist between men and women in our society," said the mayor.

The programming continues tomorrow at 10.30 am in the Multipurpose Room of the Torrejó Municipal Center with a talk by the psychologist Jessica Sanchís Buades with the title ‘Women and associations’.

On Wednesday 24, Espai D'Art of the City Council will host at 11.30 am the opening of the poster exhibitions 'November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women' carried out by students of the 2nd year of Artistic Bachelor of IES Pere María Orts. The show will be installed until December 7. That day, at 7 pm, the theatrical performance of the play ‘A vueltas con la vida’ will take place in the Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council, with free admission.

On Thursday 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the commemorative banner will be displayed on the balcony of the City Hall at ten in the morning. At noon, the municipal radio station ‘Onda Benidorm’ will carry out the program ‘Femenino singular’, in which a manifesto will be read. In the afternoon, at 6 pm, the Local March against Gender Violence promoted by Benidorm Housewives Association will be held, which will start at Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España.

The objective of all these activities is "to continue fighting and raising awareness to achieve real equality between men and women, end gender violence and educate our minors in equality," Zaragozí added.
