With the tasks of milling and paving next week, the works to improve mobility and accessibility in the surrounding streets to FGV Station are finished. Benidorm is becoming more and more a friendly city with pedestrians

Friday March 04, 2022.

The countdown begins for the completion of the works to improve accessibility and mobility of the EDUSI Strategy in the surrounding area of the FGV station. “We have programmed the EDUSI works very carefully to minimize inconvenience and to ensure that residents can continue their normal lives while they are being carried out”, explained the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez. “In these actions in the Station area, we only cut access occasionally when it is essential for milling and paving work. In this way, we are creating a more comfortable and safer Benidorm for our neighbours with the minimum inconvenience.”

The streets affected by this work are Estación Avenue, Capitán Cortés street and Ginés Cartagena street, that is, the block that surrounds  Prelado Square Cosme Bayona and the CEIP Bautista Lledó. Next Monday and Tuesday, milling will be carried out to remove and repair the current pavement, which will be paved again on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 March. "We are aware that the transformation of the city entails some very specific and short-term inconveniences, such as the closure of a street for its complete resurfacing," declared Mayor Toni Pérez, who adds that "that is why we are working to ensure the maximum possible access to the neighbourhood during the development of these tasks, and the works have been scheduled during these months so that the neighbours can lead a normal life. In less than a week, they will begin to enjoy accessible, safe and comfortable streets, which is the objective we set for ourselves with these actions.”

With the completion of these tasks, the works that have completely regenerated the streets and public spaces of the upper part of Foietes will be completed. "In this residential school district, key for its routes and the Guillermo Amor Sports City, we have improved pedestrian mobility with wider and more comfortable sidewalks," explained the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate. “Thus we have gained in image, accessibility, services and road safety in an area where there is a significant volume of pedestrian traffic. It improves the mobility and safety of the pedestrian, and, at the same time that we widen sidewalks, we create even more parking spaces”

The works, which appeared on October 25, will end before the scheduled eleven-month period. They had an investment of €556,139.86, of which EDUSI and FEDER funds have provided 40% of the financing.

One of the most emblematic actions of this improvement project is the comprehensive renovation of Prelado Cosme Bayona square, which will be completed in the coming days. "Thanks to the collaboration of Benidorm and the European Union, in a few days this square will be fully accessible from homes and will have more pedestrian space and new green areas that will provide shade for the enjoyment of residents," explained González de Zárate, who added that "the lighting will also be renewed, changing it to a more efficient LED luminaire, and water and telecommunications services will be channelled."

It is not the only action of  EDUSI Strategy planned in the upper part of Foietes. One of the proposed projects is the installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption in Ciudad Deportiva Guillermo Amor, to improve the environmental quality of the area and the city's energy savings. Thus Benidorm, hand in hand with Europe, is committed to making this area a modern, sustainable and accessible area for all its neighbours.
