Benidorm recupera la Festa de La Creu tras dos años sin celebrarla por la pandemia

Like every first of May, Benidorm has woken up this Sunday with the celebration of the Festa de la Creu, a very endearing festival rooted in the town that has become over the years one of the most popular on the festive calendar. A festivity that has been recovered after two years without being celebrated as a result of the pandemic.

On Saturday night, the Creu began to be adorned with hundreds of carnations on Via Emilio Ortuño thanks to the women of the commission chaired by Paqui Calvo Pérez. This act of dressing in the Creu was enlivened by the Colla de Xirimiters de la Marina and the attendees were presented with sweet wine and 'coca roñosa' (a typical pie).

Today, Sunday, the big day, the day began at 8 in the morning with a general tolling of the bells in the church of San Jaime and Santa Ana, which was followed by a parade by the Colla de Xirimiters. After 11 o'clock, the procession of festive entities and authorities has moved in a pilgrimage from the church to the foot of the Creu, where the blessing of the municipal area has taken place.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, the councillor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and members of the municipal corporation, as well as the national deputy Agustín Almodóbar, have taken part in this pilgrimage. The delegation was accompanied by the president of the Associació de Penyes, Adrián Romero, together with the president of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals, José Vicente Fuster and the older and younger queens, Aila Merenciano and Chloe D'Hebroodt, respectively, as well as the members of the Comissió Festa La Creu.

After the blessing of the municipality by the parish priest of San Jaime, the boy Daniel Saval Martínez recited the traditional verse to Santa Creu before hundreds of neighbours and visitors.

Then entourage has left to the church of San Jaime, where the offering of flowers has taken place and a mass enlivened by Coro de la Barqueta. The program of Festa de la Creu will end on Tuesday, May 3 with a mass for the dead in San Jaime at 7:00 p.m.
