Benidorm brings water sports to more than 600 primary school students during 'Blue Week'

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Sports, is currently holding "Blue Week," an activity aimed at bringing water sports closer to the children of our city. More than 600 primary school students from the thirteen public and private schools are participating in the event. The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, visited the students from the Miguel Hernández public school who participated in this "Blue Week" this Tuesday, as well as their teachers and the municipal sports instructors responsible for it. "Blue Week" is part of the Department of Sports' "June School 2025" program and is dedicated to "introducing students to water sports such as kayaking; to beach sports and games, such as beach volleyball and beach soccer; and rope-making techniques, with the fundamental objective of introducing and promoting these sports among the school population through a simple but engaging day," explained Councilor Javier Jordá.
The head of Sports explained that, to carry out this activity, all the necessary materials are provided both by the Department through its sports instructors and by the Benidorm Yacht Club, and participation is "100% free for all schools." Jordá also stated that the City Council "also covers transportation for all schools located more than one kilometre away that request it, to further facilitate and encourage student participation."
For his part, Mayor Toni Pérez noted that with this 'Blue Week', "we are bringing such a valuable resource as the sea to hundreds of children in our city, many of whom might otherwise never have the opportunity to go on, for example, a kayak trip through our bay, despite it being right at their homes."
The mayor also emphasised that the goal is "to offer them the chance to learn about all the nautical and leisure activities available in our city and, who knows, maybe spark in some of them a taste for sailing, so closely linked to our culture and history."
Since the activity began on June 2nd, the schools that have already participated in 'Blue Week' are CEIP Puig Campana, Leonor Canalejas, Bautista Lledó, Serra d'Aitana, Els Tolls, Serra Gelada, and Miguel Hernández, as well as the Nuestra Señora de los Dolores private school. They will also be joined in the coming days, until Monday, June 16, by sixth-grade students from El Murtal, La Cala, Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Ausiàs March, Mestre Gaspar López, and Gabriel Miró.
