Benidorm began the Holy Week events last night with the traditional proclamation, given by the lawyer and historical researcher César Evangelio. An event held in the parish of Nuestra Señora de La Almudena, in Foietes-Colonia Madrid neighbourhood, headquarters of the Brotherhoods of Cristo del Perdón y la Buena Muerte and La Santa Cena, which holds the presidency of the Board this year.

Along with the presidents and members of the Greater Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, attended the event; the Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros; representatives of the Municipal Corporation, ecclesiastical authorities, members of the brotherhoods of Benidorm and the president of the Festes Majors Patronals, María Dolores Cano.

The event began with the unveiling of the advertising poster,  a work by the artist Miguel Ribes Sogorb, which represents Jesus Christ at the Last Supper, at the time of the Eucharist, and the Crucifixion; all of this framed in Sierra Helada and the city's skyscrapers. María Teresa Cantó, president of the Mayor Board of Brotherhoods of 2024 and representative of the Royal Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza y la Paz and Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Salud y la Humildad, gave the artist a plaque as a souvenir of the event.

Later, César Evangelio was in charge of presenting the Holy Week proclamation. Before the attendees he invited everyone “to celebrate Holy Week appropriately” and evoked his memories and experiences of the religiosity of Benidorm, as well as his relationship with the church as a young man and as an adult. After highlighting the importance of brotherhoods and brotherhoods, he stated that his election as a crier “is an honour that I will never be able to forget.”

Evangelio indicated that “the Christian sense of transcendence has been fused with this land since the beginnings of Christianity” and in that sense, he revealed that “there are beliefs that indicate that Saint Paul arrived on the coast of Santa Pola.” He also alluded to historical moments to highlight the presence of the church in the city, such as “when Bernat de Sarrià granted the Town Charter, he did so by entrusting himself to our lord.” “They are continuous evidence of the people's beliefs, a town which knew how to protect the Virgin in the most difficult times,” he added.

For his part, Mayor Toni Pérez, after congratulating the town crier, highlighted that right now "there is no more important act today than the announcement of Holy Week." About Ribes Sogorb's poster stated, “It is on par with Benidorm, with prominence for the holy supper and the Benidorm we love so much.” Pérez referred to Holy Week “as an expression of the faith and fervour of a people” although it is also “a holiday time when thousands of people visit us.” He also stressed that Benidorm “transmits its values and feelings from humility” and described the proclamation as “wonderful” while declaring himself “a great admirer” of the crier and his works and publications.
