The Local Government Board has today approved the contracting file for the expansion and improvement of the universal accessibility of the Raúl Mesa pavilion and the start of the procedure for awarding the aforementioned contract, which will be carried out through an ordinary and open file.

The tender budget amounts to 900,374.81 euros and the expected duration of the works in six months.

The current pavilion is more than 35 years old and presents some problems with humidity and deficiencies typical of the age of the enclosure. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out improvement actions not only on the roof but also in other actions that allow the installation to be universally accessible, as well as space for spectators, the media, etc.

The object of the action, as approved today, will consist of the repair of the roof to solve the problems of humidity. This work will focus especially on supporting the roof with the perimeter enclosure walls. Likewise, the system of water evacuation gutters, which also has damage, will be eliminated to redirect rainwater through runoff from the roof, which will be derived to a new gutter on the main facade and a system for redirecting the discharge of water on the facade. north or later.

Similarly, the pavilion will be expanded to the east side, located next to the main access, building a new grandstand for spectators. Under the new grandstand, new changing rooms and toilets will be located to allow universal accessibility.

These improvement works aim to provide the building with better conditions of use and safety. As explained by the mayor Toni Pérez, it is a project "with which the recurrent problems of humidity are solved after more than 35 years of operation and the facilities are dimensioned to current sports needs".

The mayor has underlined that when projecting this intervention "the integration of the new spaces in the environment has prevailed". In addition, he has continued, "we continue to deepen our strategy of constant improvement of the facilities of Guillermo Amor sports city to offer the athletes of Benidorm the best possible facilities".
