Antonio Bravo presents his collection of poems ‘Benidorm verso a verso’ within the acts of the FMP Cultural Week

05 November 2021
Fiestas

Doctor in English Philology Antonio Bravo presented yesterday in the Assembly Hall of the City Council his collection of poems 'Benidorm verso a verso' within the programming of the Cultural Week of Festes Majors Patronals, whose acts began last weekend with a concert of l'Illa Musical Society on the occasion of 'Dia de les Penyes'.

The Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, was in charge of introducing the author of ‘Benidorm verse by verse’, to whom he thanked “his enthusiasm, desire and enthusiasm for culture”. Among those attending the presentation were, among others, the Fiestas Councilor, Jesús Carrobles; members of the Corporation; the Major and Infant Queens of Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pérez and Sofía Fuster; the president of the Commission, Batiste Rostoll; and representatives of the Penyes Association.

Antonio Bravo himself detailed the content of this collection of poems "divided into six parts" and made up of around 80 poems which are accompanied by ten engravings made by the local artist José Albero. During the presentation, the author explained part of the creative process of this collection of poems, while reciting some of his compositions starting with the ode to Benidorm that opens the publication.

In his book 'Benidorm verso a verso', Antonio Bravo reviews passages in the history of the city and some of its key characters, such as l'Almirall Bernat de Sarrià, Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza, Pedro Zaragoza or Josefina and Pere Mª Orts i Bosch; or go to the most emblematic places of Benidorm such as its beaches, the small square of Castell or El Tossal de la Cala.

Also in the collection of poems there is a place for social denunciation, for the natural wonders that surround Benidorm or for intimacy and fully current issues such as the Covid-19 health crisis.
The Cultural Week continues tomorrow, Saturday, November 6, with a concert by the La Nova Musical Society at 5.30 pm in the Julio Iglesias auditorium at Parque de l’Aigüera. On Sunday, at the same time and venue, it will be the turn of the Musical Union. Later, at 8:00 p.m., the Rondalla of the La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Association will offer a recital of Pols i Pua in the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna.
