Ten women joined the Corps in 1982

40 years have passed since the incorporation of the first policewomen to the Local Police

08 February 2022
Seguridad Ciudadana

On February 8, 1982, Benidorm City Council incorporated new members of the Local Police staff, including the 1st Promotion of female Local Police officers. Ten women made history with their inauguration and paved the way for the following promotions. Today marks the 40th anniversary of the incorporation of the first agents to the Benidorm Local Police Corps.

In that 1st Promotion were Mª Carmen Cussac, Paqui Cutillas, Mercedes Llorca, Pilar Quinto, Silvia Franco, Mª Inés Romero, María Mas, Inés Martínez and Mati Pérez, who was joined by Celsa Conde, who to date had carried out administrative tasks. Of these, five have already retired, four are still actively serving in different municipal departments, and one died years ago.

On this anniversary, the mayor, Toni Pérez, has pointed out that "the incorporation of these first women into the Local Police of Benidorm constitutes a milestone", and has indicated that "although the percentage of men is still a very majority, the truth is that the number of female agents who join the staff grows in Benidorm selective process after the selective process -he specified-, placing our Local Police several points above the average.

"We are convinced that the percentage will grow progressively since more and more women are interested in joining the Security Corps and Forces," he added.
