Social Welfare department performed 183 actions of psychological care during the alarm state
The Social Welfare services of Benidorm City Council have carried out 183 psychological care actions during the first two and a half months of the Covid-19 health crisis, according to data provided today by the councillor of the area, Angela Llorca, who has highlighted "The work performed by all technicians and professionals who have been at the service of the most needy people caring them and attending to the most extreme and urgent situations that the pandemic has generated or that have worsened as a consequence of it."
Most of the psychological attention has been provided through video calls or via telephone. During this time, in addition, two extraordinary telephone lines have been maintained to deal with possible crisis situations in the evenings and at weekends.
Llorca stressed that the Psychological Care Service, coordinated by the Department of Social Welfare with the collaboration of the Education area led by Maite Moreno, has attended to 35 people who have required this type of professional help due to the health crisis and most of them have required continuous attention and monitoring of their situation.
The councilor recalled that "during the state of alarm, this service has focused on responding to the needs or situations derived from the pandemic itself and from confinement, such as the psychological repercussions generated by isolation, having suffered the disease or having lost a family member. ”
Five psychologists from the Department of Social Welfare and two others from the Psychopedagogical Cabinet of Education have participated in this service, who have monitored each case.
The Councilor for Social Welfare has reported that most of the cases occurred in the first two months of the pandemic, and it has been verified “a strong decrease in demand coinciding with the phase changes and flexibility in confinement”.
Llorca has detailed that "almost half of the cases of people who needed professional psychological care -16- have reached us through the Collective Help Network (#RAC), launched by this City Council a few days after the start of the state of alarm and which has proven to be a fast and effective channel for the comprehensive management of many of the needs of the population during confinement ”. "Citizens have had a #RAC channel to ask for help, and a team of professionals from Social Welfare and Education at their disposal to overcome the psychological repercussions of the pandemic," she added.
In addition to the cases derived by Social Welfare professionals -15-, psychological attention has also been given to four of the users of the space for homeless people that the City Council enabled in the facilities of 'Raúl Mesa' pavilion as soon as the state of alarm was decreed.
