Festa de la ‘Carxofa’ offers to Mare de Déu del Sofratge
Festa de la 'Carxofa', as usual in the festive calendar, after finishing Patron Festivities, celebrates its festivities this weekend.
This morning the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, members of the municipal corporation, the president of the Commission of Major Patron Celebrations, Roberto Carretero, the queens of the Fiestas, Marina Carrillo and Paula Mayor, accompanied to the members of 'Carxofa' Festa, which this year is chaired by Francisco Muñoz Antón, to the flower offering in honor of the Mare de Déu, whose route has travelled from the Constitución Square, Santa Faz, Paseo de the Carretera, Alameda and Mayor street until arriving at the Church of San Jaime and Santa Ana, in which they have been received in the chapel by the parish priest Juan Antonio González, then celebrating a mass.
On Friday the events began with the traditional tasting of the 'Farina de dacsa and peix' typical buns of Benidorm.
Yesterday, 'Penjà de la Carxofa' was held, a giant artichoke hangs in the middle of the Constitución Square, made of paper and cardboard, and whose burnt will put the end to the celebrations.
Subsequently, the ‘XXXVII Children's Drawing Contest’ took place, through which many generations have passed and in which children from the city participated. After that the commission offered a tasting of sardines and local wines. The events continued with the 'Tardeo' accompanied by the musical tray and musical performance at night.
This party is deeply rooted in the city since it was rescued from times before the Civil War and that for nearly 40 years the residents of the Constitutcón Square have celebrated, born spontaneously before the war and where It is tradition to taste typical scones from Benidorm, roasted sardines and artichokes.
