The plenary session approves by a large majority the tender document for the remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue

18 June 2018
El pleno aprueba por amplia mayoría el pliego para licitar la remodelación de la avenida del Mediterráneo

The municipal corporation of Benidorm has approved today in an extraordinary plenary session and by a large majority the list of economic and administrative clauses that will govern the tender for the works of the first phase of remodeling and renovation of Mediterráneo Avenue.

The councilman of Urban Scene and Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that this remodeling is "a step of modernization" and "we improve accessibility, sustainability, image, mobility, new technologies and, above all, the quality of life of neighbors, tourists and merchants ". De Zárate remarked that Mediterráneo is "a city project, a project for all", and thanked the work done to municipal technicians and external advisors of the Council of Urban Scene, including representatives of the different business and neighborhood associations that are part of the consultative body.

The project has a biannual character and an execution cost of 11.4 million euros, of which the City Council must provide 2.8 million euros in two years - something less than 25% -. The rest will be financed by the Water Contract Renewal Fund, estimated at 4.5 million euros per year.

With regard to the municipal contribution, this should be done with the budget of 2018 and 2019 years. This year's budget includes one million euros for this work. More than 800,000 euros will be added to this appropriation, which will be taken care of by the public transport links bag, from which this amount has already been withheld. The remaining million euros should be included in the 2019 budget.

In addition to the renovation of the entire subsoil and surface of the avenue from Puente Street to Europa Avenue, the project includes the remodeling of these two roads and the pending section of Doctor Pérez Llorca Street, Valencia Street, Bilbao Avenue and Emilio Romero Street.

The bulk of the work is concentrated in the subsoil, with the renewal of drinking water, waste and rainwater networks. In addition, the project proposes action in the urban scene, the renewal of the public lighting network, the installation of access controls, the expansion of the gardening plantations, the placement of new furniture, the installation of an ornamental fountain and a 'tecnohito' of 23 meters of height in the Plaza de la Hispanidad, and the creation of 'tecnoparadas' of bus.

The bases of the project are: the extension of the pedestrian areas, the improvement of the hydraulic infrastructures, and the modernization of the urban elements and installations of new technologies linking them to tourism.

Once the project and the economic and administrative specifications have been approved and taking into account the amount of the contract, the tender must be published in the Official Journal of the European Union for a period of 45 days. If all the procedures are completed in a timely manner, the works could begin in the last quarter of the year.
