The screening, scheduled between the events of March 8, 2020, had to be suspended due to the pandemic
Equality projects ‘Serás un hombre’, a film that refutes the macho culture
With a reduced scenario, in accordance with the requirements demanded by the health authorities, a hundred people gathered to watch the film, among them the councilors of Equality and Culture, Ángela Zaragozí and Jaime Jesús Pérez, other members of the corporation and the same Isabel de Ocampo who presented her work and, after viewing, maintained a dialogue with the public.
The screening is part of ‘Culture for Equality’, a cross-cutting project of the Councils for Equality and Culture to give visibility to artistic productions made by women. However, it was planned to be displayed during the activities of March 8 of last year that had to be suspended due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19.
Premiered at SEMINCI (Valladolid International Film Week), 2018 and starring Abel
Azcona, ‘Serás un hombre’, presents two extreme characters: a former pimp and a visual artist who, through performances, transmits his personal experiences. Complementing the story there is a high school class and a marketing team discussions around masculinity. All this with the intention of provoking reflection in the public.
"For us it is an honor that Isabel de Ocampo is here - Angela Zaragozí said - that she has decided to accompany us and explain to us what motivated her to carry out the documentary, what she was inspired by and what her journey has been." The councilor believes that despite being a "hard" movie it can help us "to raise awareness and put in a situation about everything that surrounds sexist violence" and even more so now that "in recent days we are seeing that a large number of people are dying, women ”, because of sexist violence.
De Ocampo's documentary has been awarded in Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest and LECYT - Festival de cine y televisión del Reino de León.
