After the mass the names of the members of the Comissió de Sant Antoni 2020 have been announced

Hundreds of people attend the traditional Sant Antoni animal blessing at the Hermitage of Sanç

20 January 2019
Centenares de personas asisten en la ermita de Sanç a la tradicional bendición de animales de Sant Antoni

More than three hundred people attended on Sunday the traditional blessing of animals that is celebrated every year in the Hermitage of Sanç on the occasion of the festivity of Sant Antoni. Accompanied by their pets, residents of Benidorm have paraded before a temple from where the parish priest has blessed the animals, an act celebrated after the mass in honor of the saint in the tent next to the hermitage.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, participated in the event; the councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; councillors of the corporation; the queens of Festes Majors Patronals, Marina Carrillo and Paula Mayor, together with their court of honor; representatives of Comissió de Festes and of Associació de Penyes, as well as the different parties that are celebrated in the hermitage: the Parade of the Three Wise Men, San Isidro and El Roser. These entities, together with members of Ganduls club and neighbors of the Huerta district have been in charge of organizing the events in honor of Sant Antoni due to the absence of members of this festivity. After the mass, the names of the large group of members who will form the Comissió de Sant Antoni 2020 have been announced.

Toni Pérez addressed a few words to the attendees, highlighting the "legacy of history and traditions" that the Huerta and the hermitage itself represent for Benidorm. After the blessing of the loaves, the traditional blessing of animals was celebrated to put an end to the acts of Sant Antoni, after the pilgrimage and the offering of flowers held yesterday.
