Benidorm presenta su proyecto de refuerzo educativo y actividades extraescolares para el curso 2020/2021

Benidorm City Council has designed a global project of educational support and extracurricular activities for the next academic year 2020/2021, which includes five programs proposed by the departments of Education, Culture and Sports. Those responsible for the three areas, Maite Moreno, Jaime Jesús Pérez and Mariló Cebreros, have transferred today the general lines of this project, with which the City Council will also attend the call for grants launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport for “the performance of educational support activities, and other extracurricular, cultural and sports activities, aimed at the school population between 3 and 18 years old, to compensate for the negative effects of the lock down as a result of the health emergency caused by Covid-19 ”.

Moreno explained that "prior to the publication of these grants in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana on August 14, the three Councils were already working on this global project"; And hence the City Council is already in a position to present it to this call, in which the municipalities opt for a fixed subsidy of 3,000 euros and another of a variable nature that will be determined depending on the localities

The councillor of Education has indicated that from his Department two programs are included in this global project. The first is “Summer Educational Support Program (PAEV) that has been taking place during the two months of July and August”; and the second is "a new program for students in 2nd and 3rd cycle of Primary and all Secondary" in which "reinforcement classes will be offered to students with educational support needs, helping them to achieve academic objectives during the course" .

Regarding Culture, the Department has included in this global project the theater cycle 'Joves Espectadors', "aimed at Infant and Primary schoolchildren" and which will take place "between the months of February and March 2021" in "Outdoor spaces complying with all health security protocols." In the event that the students cannot leave the educational center, the cycle will move "to the educational centers, performing the representations in the school playgrounds, as clarified by the councillor of Culture. Pérez pointed out that "this cycle that has been developing in recent years" with the aim of "enhancing the cultural life of the child population."

In this regard, he recalled that "during the summer cultural activities of theater, cinema, exhibitions and music have been programmed for all audiences, including the youth population", which has also had at their disposal the 'Summer 2020' program of the Youth department in which 30 students have participated in each of the fortnights of the months of July and August.

Finally, the head of Sports has indicated that the project includes two programs related to physical activity. Thus, the City Council will offer "a program of extracurricular physical-sports activities in the 14 Infant and Primary schools of Benidorm from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., which will be carried out by municipal sports technicians." The second program, "more ambitious", is 'Espai Obert' with which sport will be taken to all the city's neighborhoods, opening the sports facilities of six schools in the city from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. all children and young people who want to practice sport can do so safely and close to their home ”.

As Cebreros has detailed, ‘Espai Obert’ will be held at Vasco Núnez de Balboa and Aitana schools, in Madrid-Foietes neighborhood; in Miguel Hernández, Foietes Sur neighborhood; at El Murtal school, in La Cala area; at CEIP Serra Gelada, in El Rincón; at CEIP Els Tolls; and at Leonor Canalejas school, which will cover the downtown area. This program will also be supervised by the sports monitors of the City Council, two for each center.
