Benidorm joins ‘Earth Hour’ on Saturday by turning off the promenades and La Cruz for an hour

25 March 2021
Benidorm se suma el dissabte a 'L'Hora del Planeta' apagant durant una hora els passejos marítims i La Creu...

For another year, Benidorm City Council has joined 'Earth Hour', an initiative against climate change and in favor of sustainability promoted by WWF - the Association for the Defense of Nature, in its English acronym - since 2007 The Councilor for the Environment, Mónica Gómez, has pointed out that “as in previous editions, from Benidorm we joined this initiative with the symbolic gesture of leaving three of the most emblematic enclaves of the city in the dark for an hour: our Levante and Poniente promenades, and the surroundings of La Cruz de Serra Gelada ”.

Thus, this Saturday, March 27, between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm the lighting of these three points will be turned off "as a sign of Benidorm's commitment to sustainability, the protection of the planet and the reduction of CO2 emissions". A commitment, he added, that "the City Council permanently shows in the efficient management of resources and in the planning of the city based on sustainability criteria and that they have led to the obtaining of various grants of European funds to implement measures of energy saving ”.

Gómez explained that "any citizen can participate individually in‘ Earth Hour ’, turning off the lights in their home on Saturday in this same time slot, thus complementing the institutional initiative."
