The improvement works in Orts Llorca Avenue to avoid floodings will be finished at Easter

The Mayor and president of the Provincial Council visit the works financed by the provincial institution
Works in the subsoil to avoid flooding are almost complete and it is only pending the adequacy of road and sidewalks
Works to improve the drainage of rainwater in Dr. Orts Llorca street, which include the adaptation of the urban scene of this route, will be finalized ata Easter. This, has been confirmed on Wednesday by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the president of the Provincial Council of Alicante, César Sánchez. Both have visited the area to check the progress of the work financed with about 800,000 euros by the provincial institution: the one that runs from the intersection of Orts Llorca and Lepanto to the junction with Mediterráneo Avenue.
The mayor and the president of the Provincial Institution have recalled that this was a work "absolutely necessary" because these streets were "conflictive" whenever there were "major rain episodes" that were settled with floods affecting neighbors and merchants .
Pérez said that "from the first days of Easter" neighbors and tourists will find a street "completely renovated, better, more accessible and without the historical problems that had." According to the mayor, with the performance made in the subsoil "has been increased the drainage capacity" to "9,000 liters per second and have a return of 25 years." The mayor has pointed out that the benefits of this work have been evidenced even without being completed works at 100%. Thus, during the heavy rainfall of December and January the street "worked perfectly", and for the first time there were no floods at this point despite the fact that in a few days it rained twice as much as the previous year throughout the year.
Work has been completed with "improved drinking water and sewage infrastructures", as well as "electrical and communications connections". In addition, the luminaries of the whole street have been changed with the savings that have generated the measures applied throughout the city through the Energy Saving Plan of the Provincial Council.
The President of the Provincial Institution has emphasized that with this work the street has gained "more accessibility", since the pavement of the sidewalks has been renovated and widened by one meter.
The mayor has reported that this stretch is "at the expense of the asphalt and the paving of part of the sidewalks," and has valued the fact that the work was developed "keeping pedestrian traffic" to affect the minimum possible business activity.
Pérez recalled that this phase of the project to improve drainage in Orts Llorca is completed with the one that is running the City Council in the section between Alfonso Puchades and Lepanto, known as the 'Number One bend'.
