Palau d'Esports of Benidorm hosts the International Blind Tennis Tournament for the blind

El Palau d'Esports de Benidorm acoge el Torneo Internacional de Blind Tennis para ciegos

This morning the City Council of Benidorm has presented the International Blind Tennis Tournament: Benidorm 2019, a new edition in which the capital of tourism has been the city chosen as the headquarters of Spain to hold this prestigious tournament for blind and disabled people visual, attended by more than 15 countries such as Japan, South Africa, USA, Singapore, Australia, Germany or France, among others, representing the five continents.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, thanked the International Blind Tennis Association (IBTA) for thinking about the city for the organization of this important event, together with the Sound Tennis Foundation that will organize this event, "because Benidorm has always been linked to the accessibility of the most vulnerable people, with a broad spectrum of functional diversity, and this time we will be on the side of the integration and inclusion of these people through sports and tennis. -, I want to invite everyone to go to the Palau d'Esports l'Illa of Benidorm to witness these games because it really should serve to move consciences, see the desire to excel these athletes really admirable.

The president of the Sound Tennis Foundation, Francisco Verdú, explained the details of this tournament "in which the best players in the world will be represented by more than 80 players from 15 countries.There will be 8 tracks installed in the Palau, 4 tracks for the types B1 (total blind) and other 4 tracks for type B2 and B3 ".

The tournament will start next Sunday, June 9 with the opening ceremony at 5:00 p.m. and from Monday the qualifying matches will be played, on Wednesday the official matches and finals will begin and trophy delivery is scheduled for Saturday 15 of June. The format of the tournament will be individual, with the same rules of play and matches that are being developed in the Paralympics.
