Benidorm completes the procedures required by the Ministry to address the construction of the new police station

24 November 2016
Benidorm culmina los trámites requeridos por el Ministerio para abordar la construcción de la nueva comisaría

The City Council changes the use of the plot of land assigned to the Interior Ministry and expects that the project will be included in the General State Budget for 2017

Benidorm City Council has already completed the procedures required by the Ministry of Interior to be able to approach the construction of the new police station of the National Police in Salto del Agua. The councilwoman of Heritage, Lourdes Caselles, explained that Interior had communicated the need to change the use of the plot of 4,971 square meters ceded by the City Council. Concretely, this soil had to change "of endowment to patrimonial". Caselles has indicated that the change of qualification was published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) and will go to plenary session next Monday for approval. In case of approval, the agreement will be sent to the Secretary of State for Security. The councilor has clarified that the assignment of the parcel, already with the patrimonial qualification, has a validity of five years. After that period, if the Ministry has not built the new police station, the plot "will revert to the City Council and municipal heritage." Caselles has stressed that this issue is brought to full session without delay to try to "include an item for the police station in the General State Budget for 2017." The councilwoman has pointed out that Interior has moved its interest in addressing as soon as possible the construction of this police station and that the mayor, Toni Pérez, has maintained contacts with the Ministry to try to do so. The head of Heritage insisted that the new police station is an infrastructure "necessary and demanded not only by the members of the National Police who are in Benidorm but throughout the city", since it is indispensable "to change the location and have more modern facilities and according to the officers that the body has at this moment. In this regard, Caselles recalled that the current police station is forty years old. The current facilities are obsolete and insufficient.
