The temperature of Benidorm beaches can be known in real time worldwide
The director of the Laboratory, Jorge Albero, reported that last July a buoy was installed in the water of Levante beach which transmits every 20 minutes measurements of temperature and wave height. Data are given on the municipal website, where you can also access historical data of the last day, week, one month or two, and reflects the minimum and maximun average values.
Jorge Albero said that "since the launch of the system we have registered over 2,000 measurements monthly" and also remarked that "we will continue with manual measurements as we have done since 1985 in which we take water samples to analyze their quality. "
In addition to this new automated system, laboratory workers continue to perform the usual manual measurements at different points of the beaches in Benidorm. The analysis of these data reveal a gradual increase in the annual maximum temperature, and in 2014 has reached the highest average record (29 degrees), only comparable to the peak in 2003.
The director of the Municipal Laboratory stressed that microbiological parameters of E. Coli and Intestinal Esterococos in the waters of the beaches are below the guideline levels set by the legislation. "The quality of our water bath is such, that if it did not have salt we could even drink it", he said.
