European Energy Commision formalizes accesion of Benidorm in "Covenant of Mayors"
Benidorm pleged officially last July 29 after being approved in the plenary session a motion presented by Urban Scene and Alternetive Energy councillors, Gema Amor and José Vicente Marcet, in which the city was committed both, to create action plans in favor of renewable energy sources, efficiency and savings, as well as the development of an action plan for sustainable energy within a year. The motion also includes the development of a biennal report for evaluation, monitoring and verification of the objectives and organization of the Energy Day. The agreement also provides the creation of a budget in Public Lightning for a total annual amount of 40,000 euros, which had the approval of the municipal intervention.
Through the implementation of these actions, Benidorm will benefit from the Energu Saving Plan of province of Alicante.
The European Commission launched the initiative of the Covenant of Mayors to endorse and support the efforts of local authorities in implementing sustainable energy policies following the adoption of EU measures on climate change and energy in the year 2008.
In adition to promoting energy savings, the results of these actions are multiple: qualified job creation and stable, not subject to relocation, healthier quality of life and increased economic competitiveness and independence energy.
