This noon a minute of silence has been kept at the gates of Benidorm City Hall, in memory of the last two victims of sexist violence in our country. With the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, at the head, the municipal corporation, municipal workers and neighbors have shown in this way their strongest rejection of this social scourge.
A 41-year-old woman was allegedly killed with a knife late last Saturday by her 54-year-old partner. The tragic event took place in the town of Alovera, Guadalajara. The case was confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence yesterday morning.
On the other hand, last night, another 48-year-old woman lost her life at the hands of her partner in Porqueres (Girona). The man then turned himself in to the Mossos d'Esquadra and confessed to the crime.
There are already 16 women who have lost their lives killed by their partners or ex-partners so far in 2021. 1,094, since the statistics began to be compiled in 2003. Of these, eight were Spanish and another eight were foreigners.
Benidorm City Council recalls the existence of number 016, which serves victims of sexist violence 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and in 52 different languages.
