The mayor receives local athletes José Carlos Caballero and David Carreño after their latest European successes

Mayor, Toni Pérez, has received today the athletes José Carlos Caballero and David Carreño who have recently added two separate European titles to their list of winners. Thus, the first has achieved bronze in Beach Soccer with the national team in the III European Games held at the end of July in Krakow (Poland); while the second has been proclaimed champion of Europe under-17 with the 'Hispanos Promesas' during the championship held in Göteborg (Sweden) at the beginning of July.

During the meetings held today, in which the councillor of the department, Javier Jordá, also participated, both athletes shared their European experience with the mayor. They exhibited their medals obtained in both competitions.

Toni Pérez assured that "for Benidorm, it is a pride with athletes with this projection and who stand out internationally, carrying the name of the city throughout Europe."

José Carlos Caballero, who currently plays for the Polish team of KP Lódz -country cup champion-, was one of the 12 players called up by the national squad Christian Méndez for the European Games, where Spain fell in the semifinal against Italy for a tight 6-5.

For his part, David Carreño, who trained in the BM Benidorm youth academy and who plays for BM Granollers, was part of the Spanish team that won the EHF Europa Open 2023 title by defeating France 29-21 in the final. The title of European champion marks the end of the batch of young talents of the 'Hispanic Promises', born in 2006 and 2007.
