Toni Pérez claims the Governance Axis "to develop new financing formulas so as not to lose competitiveness"

The mayor of Benidorm attends the IV Technical Committee of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities

01 July 2022
El alcalde de Benidorm asiste al IV Comité Técnico de la Red Española de Ciudades Inteligentes

The mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez is participating in the IV Technical Committee of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities and the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations, organizations created under the FEMP to promote economic development, and sustainability and the improvement of the management of cities using digital and technological resources.

The conference began yesterday afternoon in the 'Severiano Alonso' auditorium of the Casa de la Cultura de Rota and will continue throughout the day with tables, debates and presentations involving experts and experiences developed in different models of Sun destinations and Beach.

After intervening in the institutional opening of the act, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has participated in a table on the management of public services in the Tourist Municipalities moderated by the president of the Smart Cities-Ametic Commission, Adolfo Borrero and in which The president of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez Marín and the mayors of Logroño –and president of RECI- Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza; Rota, Javier Ruiz Arana; and from Las Rozas, José de Uz.

Pérez has highlighted the great battle of tourist destinations for financing, "at least correct and adequate to the reality that we tourist municipalities assume." He recalled that for the Local Treasury Law "Benidorm and the other pioneer municipalities -those of the Alliance of Municipalities of Sun and Beach- that generate more than 60% of tourist overnight stays, we are not considered tourist municipalities". He advocated "developing financing formulas so as not to lose competitiveness and serve the services of a real population that multiplies the census several times." And that sense he claimed part of the VAT collected at the destination.

Pérez highlighted "the work and importance of the Governance axis" in the DTI that makes it possible to "avoid the difficulties of managing oversized public services". For this "the applicability of the methodology in smart tourist destinations and its certification in the case of Benidorm is essential, which has led us to improve our strategic planning."

Representatives from the municipalities of Benidorm, Logroño, Las Rozas, Valencia, Seville, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca participate in these conferences. They are attended by the University of Cádiz and the Cádiz Provincial Council together with the Smart City business cluster, the Spanish Digital Industrial Business Federation, and the State Mercantile Society for Innovation and Technology Management (SEGITUR) and the public entity Red. es, as well as a dozen companies that are having the opportunity to see first-hand the possibilities of optimization in the operation of tourist destinations.
