Youth and Security offer a talk about local regulations for the use of personal mobility vehicles

11 October 2019
Juventud y Seguridad ofrecen una charla sobre la normativa local que regula el uso de los vehículos de movilidad personal

The Department of Youth, in collaboration with the area of Citizen Security and the Local Police, has organized an informative talk on the new local regulations for the use and driving of personal mobility vehicles, among which are known electric scooters As the Councilor for Youth, Jaime Jesús Pérez, moved, this talk will take place on Thursday, October 17, at 8:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of Casa del Fester, located on La Biga street.

Pérez clarified that " Youth department has thought it convenient to organize this informative talk because lately we see that among young people there is an exponential increase in the use of this means of transport, because they are economical, versatile, easy to park and ecological vehicles." The increase in the use and presence of this type of vehicles on public roads is precisely that which has led the City Council to recently modify the Municipal Mobility Ordinance, to regulate, among other issues, "the requirements" for driving and "the areas through which they can circulate ”, thus increasing“ safety ”for users, pedestrians and other drivers.

The head of Youth recalled that the ordinance requires users to use the mandatory case and have civil liability insurance. Beyond these issues, the talk will specify the attendees "the areas of circulation and parking of the different types of personal mobility vehicles."

In this regard, it has been outlined that no electric scooter or personal mobility vehicle may circulate on exclusively pedestrian streets, on sidewalks or on bike lanes located therein. Yes it can be done but on the bike lanes located on the road. Also along the road they can circulate in the streets of ‘Zone 20’ and ‘Zone 30’ - streets such as Primavera or Estocolmo - respecting the speeds of these roads, as well as in the streets of mixed single platform such as Paseo de Levante. With regard to parks, the presence of personal mobility vehicles that circulate at pedestrian speeds (4 kilometers per hour) is allowed.

Pérez added that, although it has been proposed from the Youth area, the talk "is open to all citizens", both to those who already have a vehicle of this type and to those "who are thinking of acquiring one." This talk complements the one offered during the month of September within the program of Espai Jove of the Department.
