There are already five victims of sexist violence in Spain in 2020

Minute of silence in Benidorm for the two women killed in Toledo and Granada

23 January 2020
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm por las dos mujeres asesinadas en Toledo y Granada

At 12 noon, the municipal corporation of Benidorm, public workers and neighbors have congregated in silence before the main door of the City Council to protest the last sexist crimes that have ended the lives of two women, one in Toledo and another in Granada. The concentration was chaired by the acting mayor of Benidorm, José Ramón González de Zárate and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí.

The first case is a 43-year-old woman who lost her life, early Wednesday morning, in the town of La Puebla de Almoradiel in Toledo, stabbed before her children allegedly by her partner. The second corresponds to the old woman of 73, also killed with a knife allegedly by her husband. Both men have already been brought to justice.

With these, there are now five victims of sexist violence in Spain so far in 2020, the worst start in years. The Department of Equality recalls that the victims have at their disposal all municipal public services, as well as the attention number 016 that serves 365 days a year in 52 languages without leaving a trace on the phone bill, although it should be deleted from the registry of calls. Citizens are also reminded to witness any aggression that can be communicated by calling the emergency number, 112.
