Minute of silence in Benidorm to condemn two new cases of sexist violence

19 August 2019
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm para condenar dos nuevos casos de violencia machista

Benidorm has observed a minute of silence today in protest and mourning for the victims of two new cases of gender violence. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led a concentration in which representatives of municipal political groups, officials and neighbors have also participated.

On this occasion there have been two crimes committed in the last hours. The first of them in Madrid, where a 49-year-old surgeon was tied and beaten to death by her partner, leaving an 8-year-old boy orphaned. The National Police monitored this individual for previous episodes of violence. On the other hand, a 73-year-old woman was murdered by her husband in Jaén with an iron bar until her death. The couple was in divorce proceedings.

From the Equality area of Benidorm City Council, all women who may be victims of gender-based violence are reminded that municipal services are available to them. There is also the victim assistance telephone number, 016, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and in 51 languages. It also leaves no trace on the phone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the call log.
